MARGARET UNKNOWN is in flux between Berlin and Vienna since 4 years.
Not only traveling between the physical realms and borders, his art likewise avoids and positively fails to remain in specific genres over longer amounts of time, criss-crossing between improvisation, deconstruction, pop, performance, lyric and composition constantly moving and combining different terrains, shifting the center of attention and moving against stagnancy to continually evolve and overcome his limitations, pushing towards the unknown, the undefined, the possibility.
Growing up in Vienna he established himself around 2006 at a young age as a regular in Marco Eneidis (a former Cecil Taylor collaborator) 'Neu New York/Vienna Institute of Improvised Music' Monday night session at Celeste, soon collaborating with various musicians and founding his own projects.
In 2011 he joined the cultural ngo mo.ë serving as one of the main curators for several years organising concerts, workshops and festivals mainly for improvised music, performance, dance and it’s intersections further informing his own understanding and open definition of multilayered work.
After some months of hitchhiking along the western coast of Africa, experiencing the different cultures, the dances and the music, he moved to Berlin in 2014 where he came in contact with a whole vivid and colourful circle of artist like the Multiversal or Omami Lab (Egotrip) collectives, touring and collaborating with many likeminded souls around Europe and also founding his most recent group with drummer Albert Graten, SEELE.
Other mentionable groups over the years have been and are Gueule Populaire, a duo with Vienna based Réka Kutas, focusing on the intersection between movement, sound and performance and (In) The Abyssity Of The Grounds, which for many years has been a modular, constantly shifting group as a mental and physical playground ever extending and collapsing around the artistic direction of Linda Sharrock, Mario Rechtern and Margaret Unknown.
Since the beginning of 2017 he shifted his center back to Vienna concentrating more on the production of several publications working together with longtime supporter and collaborator Daniel Schatz from the Primitive Studios, though still remaining active in Berlin as well, travelling back and forth on a regular basis.
